We’ve been pumped for the return of Broadway, and we’re not the only ones. We know your groups are eager to get back into the theatre and experience the creative energy that’s pouring forth from all those brilliant performers and creative folks. They’re stepping back onto the stage—after 18 months performing in their living rooms—and it’s been mind-blowing.
That’s why we’ve spent months preparing to make sure audiences and artists alike can return to the theatre with confidence, safely taking in the greatest live entertainment in the world.
While you prepare to bring your groups back to the excitement of Broadway, we want to make sure you know what precautions the venues are taking, what to expect, and what you need to do to ensure your experience is as smooth as possible. You’re here to see a show after all!
Let’s talk about vaccines. Everyone in your group will need to show proof of vaccination upon entering the theatre with your ticket. That can be on paper or as a photo on a phone. We highly recommend that everyone store their vaccine proof and ID using the free NYC COVID SAFE app; it’s proven very effective at keeping the line moving. And don’t forget you must be at least 14 days past your second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or your first dose of the other approved vaccines.
If anyone in your group is too young for the vaccine (under 12 years old) or cannot get it for medical or religious reasons, they’ll have to show proof of a negative test. That can be a PCR test (within 72 hours of performance) or rapid antigen test (within 6 hours of performance). At-home rapid tests are not accepted, and again, you can show proof on paper or on your phone.
You’ll also need to bring photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Anyone under 18 can use a school ID, and children under 12 can bring a copy of a birth certificate, passport, etc. Children under 12 must also be accompanied by an adult who meets all the criteria.
Finally, don’t forget your mask—the Phantom isn’t the only one wearing them these days! Everyone in the theatre must wear acceptable face coverings at all times that cover the mouth and nose, including during the show. You can pull your mask down briefly at your seat to have a bite of food or a sip of your drink. Otherwise, masks on!
These guidelines are in place for all performances through January 2, 2022, and we’ll keep you updated on future policies. We know it’s a lot of information to take in, and that’s why we want you and your groups to have this information in advance.
