The Classic Musical Annie Returns to Broadway
Annie, the new production of the Tony Award-winning classic musical is returning to Broadway. Annie began previews at the legendary Palace Theatre Wednesday, October 3 and will open Thursday, November 8, 2012.
“Like our title character, we’re delighted to have found a home!” said producer Arielle Tepper Madover. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that Annie will be back on Broadway ‘Playing the Palace’ in the heart of the theatre district and in a legendary Broadway theatre.”
Annie is part of The Broadway Collection, a group of new and classic Broadway musicals selected for their unparalleled popularity with international audiences. Tickets are available through the international Broadway Collection partners.
Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Annie – with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and book by Thomas Meehan – makes its triumphant return to Broadway in a brand new production from Tony, Drama Desk and Pulitzer Prize-winning director James Lapine and an A-list creative team.
Originally on Broadway in 1977 and running for nearly six years, Annie is an all-new production one of the most acclaimed musicals of the past 35 years. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. And now, alongside her dog, Sandy, she’s set her sights on making audiences grin from ear to ear as she inspires a whole new millennium.
The original production of Annie opened April 21, 1977 at the Alvin Theatre and was one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the time. The revival will star Tony award-winner Katie Finneran as Miss Hannigan, eleven-year-old Lilla Crawford as Annie, Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks and Broadway veteran Brynn O’Malley as Grace Farrel.
