The Broadway Collection Welcomes Three New Shows
Broadway Inbound’s Broadway Collection has welcomed three new Broadway shows to their portfolio. After Midnight, The Bridges of Madison County and Cabaret have joined the Broadway Collection’s already existing group of new and classic New York City shows, each selected for their popularity with international audiences. The shows in The Broadway Collection are among the best that New York has to offer and sure to be hits for visitors to New York City.
In addition to The Metropolitan Opera and the 23 existing shows in The Broadway Collection, the following have joined for the 2014 year:
After Midnight takes the smoky glamour of Harlem’s Jazz Age and propels it into the new era in a musical that celebrates Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club. Using Ellington’s original arrangements, After Midnight is performed by a world-class big band and set against a narrative of poetry by Langston Hughes – the leader of the Harlem Renaissance. After Midnight also features 25 sensational vocalists and dancers, including special guest stars such as Toni Braxton and Babyface, who will be gracing the stage from March 18th through the 30th, 2014. This musical is perfectly suited to international audiences due to its focus on jazz and dance, bridging language and cultural barriers.
Similarly, The Bridges of Madison County is an account of love and loss that audiences of all backgrounds will be able to relate to. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, The Bridges of Madison County tells the story of a photographer and his life-changing, four-day love affair with a lonely Italian farm wife living in 1960s Madison County, Iowa. The Bridges of Madison County’s famed film adaptation, starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, was nominated for several prolific honors including the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Previews for this gripping tale of forbidden love begin on January 17, 2014 at the Schoenfeld Theatre and the show opens officially on February 20.
Opening this spring, the Tony Award-winning revival of Cabaret will tell the story of a seedy nightclub set in 1931 Berlin while the Nazis are rising to power. There, a young English performer strikes up a relationship with an American writer, all while a zealous Master of Ceremonies commands the action at the Kit Kat Klub. Scottish-born Alan Cumming reprises his role as the Emcee in this award-winning hit and Michelle Williams of Dawson’s Creek and My Week with Marilyn hits the stage as the star of the show, previewing on March 21, 2014 and opening on April 24.
The new additions to The Broadway Collection will join The Metropolitan Opera and 23 existing shows, including: A Night with Janis Joplin, Aladdin, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Blue Man Group, The Book of Mormon, Bullets Over Broadway, Chicago, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Matilda, Motown, Newsies, Once, Pippin, Rock of Ages, Rocky, The Phantom of the Opera, Stomp and Wicked.
