Side Show Returns to Broadway for a Center Stage Reimagining

Side Show, a 1997 Tony-nominated musical returns to Broadway this fall in its first ever revival, as a member of the Broadway Collection. Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Bill Condon makes his Broadway directorial debut and Anthony Van Laast choreographs this entirely re-imagined production which opens for previews October 28th, 2014 with an official opening night of November 17th, 2014 at the St. James Theater.
Set amidst 1920’s and 1930’s show business, the true story of Violet and Daisy Hilton is inspiring for its time period. Conjoined twin sisters who made their mark on the Vaudeville circuit as the highest paid “side-show” act, the story of the joined at the hip performers is one of a search for love and acceptance. This heartwarming reimagining blends the worlds of carnival, vaudeville, and Hollywood glamour, as the girls weather the storm of scrutiny under the spotlight and the unique challenges of fame.
The original Broadway production of Side Show received Tony nominations for Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a musical, among others. As the production roars back to the Great White Way, theatergoers can expect a score of “supercharged songs”, including new music by Henry Krieger. Krieger previously received countless awards and nominations for the score of Dreamgirls, an international film sensation starring Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx and Beyoncé. Tony Award nominee Bill Russell supplies the revival’s book and lyrics and lighting design of nine-time Tony Award winners Jules Fisher & Peggy Eisenhauer shines in a spectacle-laced show intended to light the stage and the hearts of audience members ablaze.
