Gigi Is a Member of The Broadway Collection
New York, NY – Forty two years after its original Broadway debut, Gigi has returned to The Great White Way with a re-imagined book and an all-star cast. Tony Award winner Eric Schaeffer directs and Emmy-winner Joshua Bergasse choreographs this recent addition to The Broadway Collection. Gigi officially opened on April 8, 2015 at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Set in the magical world of La Belle Époque Paris, Gigi returns to Broadway starring Vanessa Hudgens in her Broadway debut. Gigi has been adapted for its return to Broadway by one of the UK’s top dramatists, Heidi Thomas. Thomas is also the creator and screenwriter of the BBC series “Call The Midwife,” which highlights 1950’s family life in London’s East End. Thomas’ fluidity between screen and stage is fitting, considering Gigi has found success on numerous platforms. Originally a 1944 novella by the French author Collette, the story became a Broadway play starring internationally acclaimed film and stage actress, Audrey Hepburn. Gigi was then adapted into a nine-time Academy Award-winning movie musical. Austrian-American, Frederic Loewe composed and Alan Jay Lerner contributed book and lyrics for the “Best Picture” winning film.
As a part of The Broadway Collection, Gigi belongs to a group of New York City’s most highly regarded musicals and shows, selected for their unparalleled popularity with international audiences and put together by Broadway Inbound. Tickets are available through the international Broadway Inbound and Broadway Collection partners and domestically through traditional ticketing platforms like Telecharge and Ticketmaster.
