The Story of Anastasia Journeys to Broadway

A new addition to the Broadway Collection, Anastasia: The New Broadway Musical will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Directed by Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Anastasia will officially open on April 24, 2017.

Anastasia: The New Broadway Musical is based on the highly received 1997 film, Anastasia, produced by Fox Animation Studios and starring Golden Globe nominees Meg Ryan and John Cusack. The legendary story revolves around the last daughter of the Russian Royal family, Anastasia, who joins two con artists to find her family. In the royal family, Anastasia and her grandmother are the only survivors of a curse created by an evil sorcerer and former advisor, Rasputin. The young heroine encounters several familiar events and individuals as she goes on the journey to Paris in search of her grandmother. The musical brings this renowned tale filled with mystery and hope onto the main stage.

Anastasia: The New Broadway Musical is a dazzling show that helps the audience travel from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920’s. The film references and teaches viewers many historical figures from different parts of the world, such as French artist Claude Money and Austrian scholar Sigmund Freud. The audience can experience a diverse range of cultures and historical events through the live musical.
