Drink Me: Your Guide to Broadway’s Specialty Cocktails

Broadway Inbound

When you attend a Broadway show, you know it’s going to be a special night. Whether you’re visiting from out of town, celebrating a special occasion, or just treating yourself, you’re in for a departure from your everyday. So why would you order the same-old drink at intermission?

Before you place your order at the bar, read our rundown of ten specialty cocktails currently available at theatres around town. And yes, we’ve tasted them all.

The Dirty Shirley
Sip on this grown-up take on a childhood favorite when you catch Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre. The classic Shirley Temple has a little more razzle dazzle when it’s spiked with vodka and a splash of lime juice.

Disco in the Desert
Try something different with this flashy, fun drink when you go to see The Band’s Visit at the Barrymore Theatre. With vanilla vodka and champagne and just a splash of cranberry and grenadine, this is the sparkling cocktail you’ve been waiting for.

Petersburg Mule
It’s difficult to improve on a standard, but rumor is the Petersburg Mule does just that. This Moscow Mule variation—one of several offerings at the Broadhurst Theatre’s production of Anastasia —is made with citrus vodka, making it slightly sunnier than the original.

Doo-Wop Fizz
This bubbly berry vodka and cranberry blend is just as peppy and harmonious as the music it’s named for. If you’re catching A Bronx Tale at the Longacre Theatre, make sure you don’t miss this inspired riff on the basic vodka cran.

The Drink That Goes Wrong
For the gin lovers out there, try The Drink That Goes Wrong at the Lyceum Theatre’s The Play That Goes Wrong. Contrary to what its name would have you believe, this balanced blend of ginger ale, cranberry juice, and just a hint of lime gets it very, very right.

Sky 4 Forever
Although Evan’s not old enough to drink, this sparkling, blue-hued offering for the parents at Dear Evan Hansen, playing at the Music Box, blends champagne and blueberry vodka for a dreamy, uplifting and gently fruity drink.

Islander
Hold your own “Screech In Ceremony” before the show with this tasty drink at Come From Away at the Schoenfeld Theatre. Don’t worry, this unexpected blend of champagne, Screech rum and Triple Sec is much gentler than the original—and there’s no cod involved. Unless of course you follow it up with another drink on the Come From Away menu, aptly called Kiss the Cod!

Prima Donna
Indulge your inner headliner with this lustrous offering from Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic. This balanced blend of vanilla vodka and orange juice is at once understated and classy.

Teacher’s Pet
If you’re heading to the theatre with a little one in tow, don’t worry; School of Rock at the Winter Garden Theatre has you covered. The Teacher’s Pet is a fruity, non-alcoholic blend of ginger ale, cranberry and pineapple juice, so no one will feel left out.
