The Week in Broadway: June 20-27, 2012
We are pleased to announce our wonderful new additions to The Broadway Collection:
-Newsies: Based on the 1992 Disney movie, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged “newsies.” Jack aspires to a better life far from the hardship of the streets. A great musical for the whole family.
-Evita: Featuring a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Tim Rice, Evita tells the story of the charming and glamorous first lady of Argentina, Eva Peron.
-Annie: The classic musical Annie is returning to Broadway! Annie, the story of a young orphan who is taken in by a wealthy billionaire for the Christmas Holidays has been winning the hearts of audiences since it first came to Broadway. Tickets are available now, opening night is November 8, 2012.
-Rebecca: Based on the 1940 Hitchcock thriller, Rebecca is the story of Maxim de Winter’s West Country estate Manderley, where the memory of his first wife, the mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow. Tickets will go on sale October 1, 2012 and will open November 18, 2012.
-Chaplin: Chaplin reveals the story of Charlie Chaplin, an undeniable genius that forever changed the way America perceives and experiences going to the movies. Tickets to Chaplin will be on sale August 1, 2012 and open September 10.
-The Mystery of Edwin Drood: Figure out who killed Edwin Drood in this whodunit smash based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens. Tickets not yet on sale. Coming to Broadway this fall.
-Diner: Diner, a new musical with music and lyrics written by singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, is based on a group of high school friends celebrating good times, great music and best friends. Coming to Broadway in spring of 2013.
-Motown: Motown is a new musical based on the life of legendary Motown founder, Berry Gordy. The musical will feature music from Motown Catalogue originally recorded by such music legends as Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder as well as new music. Coming to Broadway in spring of 2013.
-Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Cinderella presents the journey of the classic tale’s maid-turned-princess in a surprisingly fresh and comic way. Coming to Broadway in spring 2013.
Additional Broadway news:
-Anything Goes will close earlier than announced, their last performance will be July 8.
-Memphis will play its last performance on August 5
-Country singer-actor Billy Ray Cyrus will make his Broadway debut in the long-running, Tony-winning revival of CHICAGO. Cyrus will play slick lawyer Billy Flynn Nov. 5-Dec. 23.
