Broadway Collection News Ending September 12, 2012

Chaplin the Musical just officially opened on Broadway, so book your tickets now! This great show plays every day apart from Monday at the Barrymore Theatre.

There have been many new additions to the Broadway cast of Disney’s Newsies. Lavon Fisher-Wilson, whose Broadway appearances include Chicago, The Color Purple and Lysistrata Jones has taken on the role of Medda Larkin. Corey Cott is making his Broadway debut in Newsies as Jack Kelly, turning down a shot at joining the cast of Glee for the part! Nicholas Lampiasi and Jake Lucas will also join the cast, alternating in the role of Les.

Rebecca, the Broadway musical which was scheduled to begin performances October 30 at the Broadhurst Theatre, has postponed the start date of its rehearsals due to unforeseen events. The first rehearsal has been pushed back by two weeks and any revised dates for the production’s first preview and opening night will be announced shortly.

The original cast recording of the hit Gershwin tuner Nice Work If You Can Get It, starring Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara, will be released digitally on September 25 and on CD October 30, 2012.

Amy Spanger will join the cast of the Broadway revival of Chicago for her second stint as Roxie Hart, beginning September 14.

The West End production Matilda the Musical won a total of seven awards at the 2012 Laurence Olivier Awards, breaking the Guinness Book of World Record for Most Laurence Olivier Award wins and stealing the title from the 1980 production of Nicholas Nickleby. Look out for Matilda the Musical on Broadway opening April 11, 2013, with previews beginning on March 4, at The Shubert Theatre.
