The Classic Fairy Tale Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella Coming to Broadway
The Broadway Collection is pleased to announce the opening of the magical Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The production marks the Broadway premiere of the celebrated musical, which was written for television in 1957 by the legendary musical theatre duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Cinderella is set to open for previews on January 25, 2013 and opening night is scheduled for March 3, 2013 at the Broadway Theatre.
The original book for Cinderella was created by Hammerstein, but the new book, by Douglas Carter Bean, has been written with a modern romantic twist. Cinderella is the ultimate makeover story of a maid-turned-princess, mixing fresh comedy and wit with the beloved tale’s classic elements. One of Rodger and Hammerstein’s most popular titles, Cinderella was originally written for television, debuting in 1957 and starring Julie Andrews. The musical has never been performed on Broadway, although stage adaptations have been performed worldwide since 1958.

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella has music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is directed by Mark Brokaw and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, with musical adaption by David Chase and Andy Einhorn as conductor. Cinderella will feature musical numbers from the original score, with the addition of four songs from other Rodgers and Hammerstein productions.
Tony nominee Laura Osnes will star as Cinderella and Billy Elliot’s Santino Fontana will take the lead as her Prince. Tony Award winners Victoria Clark and Harriet Harris will play the roles of Cinderella’s infamous Fairy Godmother and Evil Stepmother. The performance will also feature Ann Harada (“Charlotte”), Marla Mindelle (“Gabrielle”), Peter Bartlett (“Sebastian”) and Greg Hildreth (“Jean-Michel”).
This classic fairytale will touch the hearts of all audiences. The production will include all of the original elements of Cinderella, the pumpkin, glass slipper, masked ball and more, plus surprising twists and modern references.
