As far as news goes, we have great news about Motown the Musical and Matilda the Musical – they both keep breaking records!! Both shows broke house records for the week ending June 23rd, their best numbers yet! Motown has celebrated weekly grosses over $1 million every single week since previews began March 11, while selling every ticket available for every performance. No other untried Broadway show has ever achieved this while opening cold in New York!
Annie, which also grossed over $1 million for the week ending June 23rd, is welcoming two new young actresses to the musical. Taylor Richardson and Sadie Sink will share the title role of Annie on Broadway, beginning performances on Tuesday, July 30. Lilla Crawford will play her final performance as Annie on Sunday, July 28. Annie is also welcoming a new Miss Hannigan – Tony Award-winner Faith Prince will return to Broadway as evil orphanage matron on Friday, July 19th.
Wicked is also welcoming new members to their cast. Emmy Award-winner Carol Kane will return to the Broadway production of Wicked as Madame Morrible, starting performances on Monday, July 1, 2013. Ms. Kane has previously performed the role on Broadway, in Los Angeles, and on tour. Fresh off the national tour of Wicked, Michael Wartella has assumed the role of Boq and began performances on Tuesday, June 25.
