The Broadway Collection News for September 2013
Sadly, summer is coming to an end as Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching in NYC. However, cooler weather is on the horizon and so are the opening dates of three new Broadway Collection shows!
The following shows are opening this fall:
Big Fish: Opening for previews on September 5th with an official opening date of October 6th at the Neil Simon Theatre
Based on the award-winning and critically acclaimed film, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest and tells larger-than-life stories that thrill everyone around him. However, Edward’s son Will is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales in this musical about dreaming, loving and living bigger.
A Night with Janis Joplin: Opening for previews on September 20th with an official opening date of October 10th at the Lyceum Theatre.
Audiences will enjoy Joplin hits and classic songs alike with A Night with Janis Joplin, a musical journey celebrating the inspirations of one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest legends. Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 for three incredible years, reigning as the Queen of Rock and was the must-see headliner of her time.
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical: Opening for previews on November 21st with an official opening date of January 12th, 2014 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is a new musical based on the life and work of Grammy Award-winning musician Carole King. The musical score will include songs by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, as well as by their contemporaries, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

In other news…
The record breaking new musical Matilda is welcoming some new members to the cast. On September 3rd, Craig Bierko will join the cast as Miss Trunchbull and Jill Paice will join as Miss Honey.
Matilda the Musical has also announced the release date for their original Broadway cast recording! The CD will be released digitally and be available at the Shubert Theatre beginning Friday, September 27, 2013. The album can also be pre-ordered at www.BroadwayRecords.com.
Broadway rocker Justin Matthew Sargent, best known for his star turn as “Drew” in Broadway’s Rock of Ages, will join the company of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark as the Peter Parker / Spider-Man Alternate. Sargent will play select performances at the Foxwoods Theatre with a varied week to week performance schedule. Jake Epstein played his final performance as the alternate on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in order to begin rehearsals for his role as the legendary Gerry Goffin in Beautiful – The Carole King Musical on Broadway.
