March 17th brings The New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade! The country’s oldest and proudest Irish tradition, marched for the first time more than 250 years ago on March 17, 1762 – fourteen years before the Declaration of Independence. The sidelines are filled with over 2 million green-clad spectators, all enjoying the company, the music and celebration. After the excitement of the parade you can continue the excitement with any of the awe inspiring shows on Broadway these days. With so many stars from TV and movies, to Tony award-winners and Broadway veterans rejoining The Great White Way, now is the time to come see these celebrated shows. After Midnight is welcoming a flurry of stars, beginning with Toni Braxton and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds in March, followed by Vanessa Williams, singer, actress and former Miss America in April. Matilda is ecstatic to be welcoming Matt Harrington and Christopher Sieber as Mr. Wormwood and Miss Trunchbull, respectively. Wicked also will welcome new cast members to the Broadway blockbuster in late February, including two-time Tony Award nominee Mary Testa assuming the role of Madame Morrible.
March is also bringing the opening of several shows from revivals to brand new shows:
Les Miserables is coming home after so long an absence with a star studded cast. Ramin Karimloo, Will Swenson and Caissie Levy are among the talented cast debuting the 2014 run of this famed show, with previews to begin March 1st and the official opening on March 23rd.
The Hollywood hit turned Broadway musical, Rocky the Musical will officially be opening on March 13th.
The gangster story and Academy Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay by Woody Allen, Bullets Over Broadway, will be starting its Broadway previews on March 1st to officially open in April starring Zach Braff, as well as several other prominent Broadway stars.
Also making his big return to the stage in his award-winning role as the Emcee is Alan Cumming in Cabaret! Alongside Michelle Williams in her Broadway debut, these two hit the stage for the previews of Cabaret March 21st to officially open in April.
Lastly, a big congratulations to the new Broadway hit Beautiful – The Carole King Musical who has set a new box office record at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre this past February! Beautiful’s gross for the week was $901,902.90 in the 1034 seat theatre, the highest for any eight-show week at the Sondheim Theatre.
