“NYC Center Stage” Celebrates the Best of Broadway at IPW

Broadway Inbound joined NYC & Company and emcee Norm Lewis on Tuesday, April 9th, to present the “NYC Center Stage” luncheon at IPW at McCormick Place in Chicago. The Broadway experience featured performances from The Broadway Collection, Broadway Inbound’s group of NYC musicals that are especially popular with international audiences.

“NYC Center Stage” welcomed more than 5,000 international and domestic travel buyers and journalists to enjoy numbers from Broadway’s Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Cabaret, Les Misérables, Motown, Pippin and Rocky. This one-of-a-kind New York City experience was hosted by stage, movie and television star Norm Lewis, whose most recent appearance in The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess earned him a Tony Award® nomination. Lewis will also be taking over the lead role in Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera this spring.

The main purpose of the “NYC Center Stage” luncheon is to promote Broadway and the nation’s largest urban tourism destination to buyers and media attending IPW from around the world. In coordination with NYC & Company, Broadway Inbound brings some of New York’s world-renowned character alive onstage.

“It’s always a thrill to be able to bring some of Broadway’s hottest shows to the eclectic and well-traveled audience at IPW, and the opportunity to showcase the amazing live entertainment available in New York City is a real privilege. The recent increase of high-demand Broadway shows makes it even more important for visitors to book their tickets in advance, to guarantee seats at their show or event of choice. We’re here to make that happen.” said Bob Hofmann, Vice President of Broadway Inbound.

“A visit to New York City is not complete without seeing a Broadway show. We’re excited to join once again with The Broadway Collection to present a one-of-a-kind New York City experience for this year’s IPW attendees, showcasing some of the City’s best Broadway entertainment options,” said NYC & Company President and CEO Fred Dixon.

Among the shows at Tuesday’s “NYC Center Stage” luncheon were three of this season’s hottest original Broadway musicals. The show opened with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the story of the music legend and her rise to fame. Rocky, the new Broadway musical based on the Oscar winning movie, entertained guests with “Keep on Standing” and “Raining,” two audience favorites. The cast of Motown dazzled the luncheon with a medley of the label’s hit songs from the Jackson 5, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and more. In addition to those new hits, some of Broadway’s currently running classics – Cabaret, Les Miserables and Pippin – were also showcased at the event. These beloved musicals bring the history and magic of Broadway to new audiences, and their performances left no question as to their status as Broadway masterpieces.
