Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Iconic CATS Completes his Broadway Trifecta

New York, NY CATS, one of the biggest hits in theatrical history, is returning to Broadway as a new member of The Broadway Collection for Summer 2016. Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats”, the opening of CATS will be Webber’s third musical to run simultaneously on Broadway. Previews for the first U.S. revival of this iconic musical will begin July 14, 2016. Under the direction of Trevor Nunn and choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler (In The Heights), CATS will officially open at the Neil Simon Theatre on August 2, 2016.

Centered around a tribe of “Jellicle Cats”, who must decide which of them will ascend to the mystical Heaviside Layer to be reborn, this magical and moving story takes T.S. Eliot’s poetry and puts it into the mouths of a diverse clan of singing, dancing felines. The creative team for the new Broadway production of CATS includes Mick Potter (Sound Design), Natasha Katz (Lighting Design), John Napier (Scenic & Costume Design), and choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, based on the original choreography and associate direction by Gillian Lynne. Seen by more than 73 million people since its world premiere, CATS has been presented in over 30 countries and has been translated into 15 different languages.

As a part of The Broadway Collection, CATS belongs to a group of New York City’s most highly regarded musicals, cultural performances and live entertainment, selected for their unparalleled popularity with international audiences and put together by Broadway Inbound. Tickets are available through the international Broadway Inbound and Broadway Collection partners and domestically through traditional ticketing platforms like Telecharge and Ticketmaster.
