Last days to catch Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson in the Color Purple
Having made her Broadway debut in the Tony nominated revival The Color Purple; Jennifer Hudson has continually captivated audiences with her sultry performance as Shug Avery and in a few short days will grace the stage for her final performance on May 8th.
Never fear, as Jennifer Hudson moves on from the stage role to continue her film career, Broadway alum Heather Headley will step into the iconic role, making her return to the Great White Way for the first time in fifteen years. Heather was renowned for roles such as the original Nala in The Lion King and the title role in Aida, for which she won a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical.
Headley will portray the key character in the staging of the Pulitzer winning Alice Walker’s iconic novel, The Color Purple. Shug awakens the lead Celie to the true meaning of love, realize her sexuality and to believe in her own strength and character.
Don’t miss out on seeing both these talented actresses in this poignant role; Jennifer Hudson will take the stage for a final performance on May 8th, with Heather Headley stepping into the role on May 10th at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
