This Is A Bronx Tale
A Bronx Tale the Musical was just named a Critics Pick by The New York Times. It opened this month, on December 1, 2016, at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre. The musical’s warm reception shouldn’t surprise anyone, especially when you consider the kind of immense talent that makes up the creative team: Alan Menken (winner of eight Academy Awards, eleven Grammy Awards, and a Tony Award) wrote the music, and Robert De Niro (winner of two Academy Awards) directed the musical along with Jerry Zaks (winner of four Tony Awards).
The musical tells the story of a young man who is torn between listening to his nice-guy father or the slick mob boss he admires. If that sounds familiar, you may know this story from Chazz Palminteri’s one-man show or the 1993 film starring Robert De Niro. Even if you’re a fan of the play or film, you’ve never see the story told quite like this. With a toe-tapping doo-wop score by Alan Menken, this story about growing up and the choices we make will leave you smiling from ear to ear.
A Bronx Tale: The Musical conveys the heart of New York come-to-life on the stage. The film was captured in three New York City boroughs, including Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx; now Palminteri’s timeless story is debuting in the heart of Manhattan.
De Niro’s involvement also highlights his long-standing connection with and commitment to New York. As a proud New Yorker, De Niro not only owns multiple Tribeca restaurants, but has taken an active role in promoting tourism to the destination. He routinely works with ILOVENY campaigns, assisted in the establishment of the Tribeca Film Festival and was named Ambassador of New York City Media and Entertainment this year.
