New York City Ballet Sashays into The Broadway Collection
New York City Ballet (NYCB), founded in 1948 and considered to be one of the foremost dance companies, joins The Broadway Collection. The ballet company is comprised of 90 dancers with prestigious backgrounds in performing arts and a 62-member orchestra under the artistic direction of Peter Martins, NYCB’s Artistic Director.
New York City Ballet was established by playwright Lincoln Kirstein and choreographer George Balanchine. Balanchine and Kirstein, artistic figures of the twentieth century, envisioned a modern form of American ballet for rising stars under the guidance of global ballet masters.
Under the direction of Balanchine, within his lifetime, the company evolved the concept of classical ballet into cultural performances and internationally influenced dance across Europe and other parts of the world. The contemporary ballet styles included dramatic storylines along with Russian, French and Italian traditional forms of dance.
Today, Executive Director Katherine Brown maintains the vision of promoting creative excellence and nurturing a new generation of dancers and choreographers.
