Broadway Inbound & The Broadway Collection Introduce Five New Members
This fall season The Band’s Visit, Come From Away, Escape to Margaritaville, Frozen, and SpongeBob SquarePants will all join forces with The Broadway Collection to raise awareness of their productions with travelers worldwide.
Officially open on Broadway as of March 2017, Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of a Newfoundland community coming together to aide 7,000 strangers thrust into their midst in a time of global chaos. Directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, it consistently plays to “standing room only” audiences. Booking in advance is essential for travelers interested in seeing this moving musical.
The Band’s Visit will offer experienced travelers who’ve seen classic productions in the past, a taste of the contemporary American musical, when it opens for previews October 7. Obie Award winner David Cromer will direct this new work, which weaves the tale of an Egyptian band whose music, longing and laughter, connect them to their unexpected hosts under the Israeli, desert sky. The production officially opens November 9 at the Barrymore Theatre.
Family travelers and nostalgic millennials will be swept to one “pineapple under the sea” when the Nickelodeon Group’s SpongeBob SquarePants the musical surfaces at Broadway’s Palace Theater this autumn. Officially opening December 4, it boasts an unheard of creative team, including globally recognized musicians: John Legend, Sarah Bareilles, the late David Bowie, Aerosmith, T.I. (Clifford Harris Jr.), The Plain White T’s and Lady Antebellum, who all contribute to the musical styling of the production.
Looking ahead, music of a very different kind will encourage visitors to NYC to Escape to Margaritaville. This new musical will highlight the discography of iconic singer-songwriter-author Jimmy Buffett. It begins previews at the Marquis Theatre on Friday, February 16, 2018, with the official Broadway Opening Night on Thursday, March 15.
Last but not least, in the spring of 2018 Disney Theatrical will bring the smash-hit, musical-movie, Frozen to Broadway, to the delight of little girls around the world.
